It has been an aim of West Wittering Parish Council for several years to provide a dual use path joining the east and west settlement areas of the village. The need for safer pedestrian, wheel chair and cycle access along Cakeham Road was raised by many people responding to the VDS Consultation Questionnaire in 2005.
The first half of the path was opened on 12th May 2011 by trustees of F G Woodger Trust. The path has been made possible by funding from the trust, generous donation of land by Webb Farm Estate plc and contributions in funding and services from the Parish Council and West Sussex County Council.
Not only does the path provide a much safer crossing between east and west it should encourage more people to exchange their car for cycling and walking. It will also support the school travel plan, sustainable transport requirements and provide a further facility for leisure use.
